John Pinniger of the Heritage Fruits Society and Transition Darebin will run grafting classes again in 2022. .

For those who have not grafted before, or are not confident enough to graft their own trees, or wish to practise and discuss what they are doing. This will be hands-on. It involves learning the reasons for, and the science of grafting, and then plenty of time to practise. Your questions answered. Bring a sharp knife if you have one. You may not ever graft another tree, but you will know when to graft and what to graft, and see examples of grafts. We will concentrate on apples, but discuss a wide range of plants.
You will spend about two hours learning what to do and practising under supervision. The third hour of the three-hour session will be assistance with the grafting of Heritage Fruits Society’s trees, including potting, labelling, etc. (part learning, part application).

All sessions are free and run at Fairfield. Address with confirmation. Max 6 people per group, so booking is essential. Bring $2 if you wish to buy some grafting tape.
